Experts by Experience Leading Change
We Are The Tree is led by forcibly displaced refugees and migrants, committed to dignity, inclusion and empowerment of our communities
Our Journey to Change

We Are The Tree is driven by the belief that every person who has to flee their home for their safety deserves a chance to live, and to thrive again, no matter who they are or how they got here or any safer country.
From our lived experience, we believe that the psychosocial well-being of forcibly displaced refugees, migrant diasporas, and their descendants from Black, racial, and ethnic minoritised communities is profoundly affected by the trauma of armed conflict and violence experienced in their countries of origin, including loss of livelihood, losing family and friends, persecution and torture. As they work to heal from pre and post displacement trauma and rebuild their lives in the UK, they are routinely disbelieved, and forced to recount traumatic events, they face structural discrimination and racism, marginalisation, social isolation.
So, it is our believe that, individuals with lived experiences of forcibly displacement and migration are experts by experience who are uniquely positioned to drive transformational change within their new host communities, once they are able to utilise their talents, experience and expertise to contribute to the host community fabric.
